I’m in a DEX club in college and we’re trying to raise money for a trip to New York. The club is a marketing club that competes in business role plays. We did a bake sale where we sold bake goods and spay paint t-shirts but I didn’t go over as well as we thought I would. We had to return a lot of the shirts that we bought. What other creative ideas do any of you have. What has worked for you? 10 points for the best and most creative idea!
Have a yardsale. But be very prepared. Design some flyers explaining your club and what you’re raising $ for, and distribute them in a few neighborhoods. The flyer should ask for donated items, which the homeowner should leave in a bag on their front porch on a certain day. Club members can drive around and pick up the stuff.
Have a womanless beauty pageant. Guys dress up in drag for the usual pageant events like evening gown and talent. It’s incredibly hilarious. I’ve had to cover several of them for a newspaper. Somehow, they always were able to get bigwigs around town and the county to be in them — school principals, the sheriff, that sort of thing.
Check out this link to the U.S. Jaycees. It lists "CPGs" – aka Chairman’s Planning Guides – these are detailed plans for events, including fundraisers that the Jaycees have done: http://www.usjaycees.org/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=20&Itemid=49
You could also do a Penny Drive. I knew an ex-Marine who asked everyone he saw for the pennies they had in their pockets or wallets. He didn’t want nickels or any other money, just pennies. He saved the pennies and bought paint and supplies to spiff up an elementary school. They really added up to a lot.
Go to some local business owners and explain what you’re doing, and see if they’d be willing to donate any goods or gift certificates that you can raffle off.
We used HLM for our gym promotion a few months ago. I have nothing but good things to say about them. They did a wonderful job. They brought us over 1200 new members in only 30 days. Their staff was excellent- I highly recommend you request Kirk. I believe their website is www.hlmpromo.com
I have to meet with a club owner and he wants me to give him a good plan for marketing/promoting the club, I have some of my own ideas but other ideas will help also..
Thanks..

Off the top of my head, if the draw to this club is music, the club should have its own MySpace site with pictures and calendar of upcoming guest musicians. Make sure the owners have permission to upload customer photos first!
You could even create two MySpace profiles, one for the name of the club and the other named something like "Chicago" Club Central. People often conduct searches based on location.
Then they should create a presence on Yelp. Take a tour of other clubs in similar markets and copy their promotion tactics. It helps to get friends and families to sign up for Yelp to post their own reviews and pictures to break the ice for other customers. Believe it or not, Yelp is quickly overtaking traditional newspapers as a way to find out what is happening in local communities.

The Marine Club is at the corner of Broad St. & Washington Av. This is basically the border line between Where South Phila starts and Center City ends. You see Market st. ANd City Hall from the corner. It’s about 10-12 block away. Across the street is the Ballet school. The High School for Performing Arts is about 2 blocks away. It’s a busy cross roads. The Italian Market (actually not very Italian anymore, mostly vietnamese) Is to the east near 9th & Washington. Area is Ok, well patroled police wise. There are 3 Supermarkets close by. Lots of resturants and take out joints as well. There’s a subway stop down the block at eilsworth st. Need more?
World Class Defenders! They got the money it just convincing foreigners to come to our league. Though I heard a rumor that they were going to get a Chilean Defender.
i dont care for any certain reason just trying to get other peoples opinion on if they think or consider wal mart to be a monopoly on the market, as they are walmart, sams club, costco, and many other smaller then wal mart retailers, i dont know shit about it, but i always thought Walmart is the definition of a monopoly on a market.
wal-mart is NOT the definition of a monopoly, because they still have competition from Target, K-Mart, Meijer’s, and other budget department stores. A monopoly is where a company has absolute dominance over a market. if you wanted a better example, look at Microsoft and how they dominate 90% or more of the PC operating system software market.
Wal-mart would probably be a better example of predatory pricing maybe, or just of an absolutely cheapo, immoral company that treats their employees like crap, import goods from China where they don’t enforce any labor laws, and where they destroy mom and pop stores by undercutting their prices.
